Barcelona seems to be open to losing Frenkie de Jong this summer if he does not renew his deal with the club, and in the process take a salary cut. Manchester United I have long been linked with de Jong, but this time he may not be willing to meet Barcelona's demands.
De Jong is one of the highest earners in the Barcelona team, but he has been thinking about his future. The Blaugrana want to see him lower his salary by around 10 million euros per season, and extend his contract, but if he hasn't done so, they will try to buy him for 100 million euros.
It was a figure that United was willing to reach in 2022, but the Daily Express report that United are now only willing to shell out €81-82m for the Dutchman, slightly below what Barcelona paid for him initially. While the Express continue to suggest four players (Mason Greenwood, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay) as potential exchanges, this is analysis not information, as it has been suggested.
In the background are also Paris Saint-Germain, who are trying to rebuild ahead of the imminent departure of Kylian Mbappe. They could not doubt allow to throw for de Jong, as in the case of United, but with Barcelona short for funds, they are in a weak negotiating position. Ultimately, until de Jong decides he wants to leave, the talks will be futile.
