Villarreal 1-1 Getafe
The yellow submarine managed to stem the tide Getafe attack from a disadvantageous position, but finally a point against Los Azulones at home is never likely to inspire too much excitement for Villarreal.
The first half took a turn on a set piece, a header from a free-kick that found Nemanja Maksimovic unmarked at the penalty spot. He duly slotted in the corner, tipping things in Getafe's favour. As Villarreal trying to advance, Getafe looked particularly comfortable, working on the bench. Borja Mayoral cleared three defenders on the left line, but his cutback could not be turned.
In theory, that should continue in the second half, but after 10 minutes, Jorge Cuenca tried to hit home a strike after a set piece. This was blocked by the defense, but in the path of Alberto Moreno, who kept his composure to finish at the next post.
Both sides battled hard in the last half hour, and Getafe had an effort from Mason Greenwood cleared off the line as well, but neither side came up with any clear-cut chances. The visitors are four points out of European football, while Villarreal move another point from the drop zone, now nine points ahead of Cadiz, and looking relatively safe.
