Aston Villa have opened discussions with Sevilla over centre-back Loic Bade.

The club’s president of football oeprations, Monchi, went to watch Bade on Saturday as Sevilla drew 1-1 with Valencia

Bade, 24, has become an important figure for Sevilla and has been called up to the French national team this season, though Didier Deschamps is yet to hand him a cap. He was part of the team that came runners-up in the 2024 Paris Olympics

However, his previous stint in the Premier League left much to be desired.

The defender failed to play a single minute while on loan at Nottingham Forest in the first half of the 2022-23 season.

In a hectic summer, Bade had become Forest’s 21st signing but did not break into Steve Cooper‘s plans and Forest cut short his loan from Rennes.

In fact, he had only made the bench once for Forest in a campaign that saw them scrapping against relegation – a 1-0 defeat by Wolves in October.

He then signed for Sevilla on loan and made the deal permanent for the 2023-24 season. Their season has not been going so well as they are 13th in LaLiga.

Bade began his career at Le Havre before moving to Lens and then Rennes.

He would bring experience of European football to Villa Park, having played multiple seasons in continental competition with Sevilla and Rennes.

Villa are placed well to advance to the last 16 of the Champions League, sitting fifth in the league phase table with two matches against Monaco and Celtic to go.
