Bukayo Saka helps Arsenal break Premier League club record with 13 games to spare as Gunners run rampant again
Arsenal broke their own set-piece record and scored eleven goals in two consecutive away games with a 5-0 win at Burnley.
The artillerymen, who beat West Ham 6-0 at the London Stadium Last Sunday, they moved to within two points of Liverpool with another shock victory and also made club history.
Martin Odegaard opened the scoring and Arsenal They doubled their lead later in the first half when Leandro Trossard was brought down in the penalty area, giving Saka the chance to score from the spot.
Beating James Trafford for Burnley's goal, Saka scored Arsenal's 24th goal from a set piece so far this Premier League season, including penalties.
That figure has surpassed the previous record set by the Gunners in 2004/05, when they scored 23 goals from set pieces throughout the campaign.
Saka scored his second goal of the game during the second half at Turf Moor, taking his tally for the campaign to 15.
Arsenal weren't done yet, however, and Trossard and Kai Havertz found the net to put the Gunners up 5-0.
It is the first time in its history that the north London team has won its first five games in a calendar year.
And it was the first time the Gunners had scored at least five goals in consecutive away league games.
The emphatic nature of Arsenal's last two wins also means their goal difference is now five better than the city of manchesterwho tied 1-1 with Chelsea later on Saturday.
Arsenal are two points ahead of third-place City with a game in hand as they try to chase Liverpool at the top.
Boss Mikel Arteta certainly believes momentum is on his side in the title race.
“The connection between the players is flowing,” he said after his attack on Burnley.
“I am very happy with the performance. The contribution of each player was good. We have momentum now and we have to maintain it.
“Confidence-wise, it's a good time. “We are showing high efficiency in front of goal.”
Next Wednesday Arsenal will travel to Portugal for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Asked if he liked his team's dominance more than goals lately, Arteta said: “Yes. We want to dominate games and play in the opposition's half as much as possible.
“I think the threat, the purpose, the activity and the connections of the players are flowing and they really want it.
“Now that we leave the Premier League, we go to Porto, which will be a really difficult environment, so get ready to play well again and be ourselves.”
Arteta praised influential captain Odegaard after Saturday's win, as did Saka after the home star scored in four straight top-flight games for the first time in his career.
When it was put to the Arsenal manager that the striker has the maturity of a senior player despite being only 22, he said: “Yeah, we don't really see that (in football).
“Especially the forwards and wingers with that level of consistency and numbers.
“At his age it's a really strange thing to find, but it's not a coincidence when you look at it every day.
“The way he trains, the way he applies himself, the qualities he has. And he can do more.”
