The Dane's quick double came in just seven minutes, but Carlton Morris recovered shortly after and reversed the momentum in favor of the home team.

At half-time the statistics were 11 shots to eight in favor of Luton, as well as 60 percent possession for the home team.

In response to what he had seen, United legend Scholes made his feelings known.

Writing to his million Instagram followers, he said: “Strange team Utd… I think they might be the only team that could win 5-nil and be beaten!!”

The game ended with shots and possession still in Luton's favor, and that has been a trend.

United are one of the Premier League's best-form teams with four consecutive wins, however some may argue that football is more than just the result.

In a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in their previous outing, United were again outshot and out-possessed, while in a 3-0 win over West Ham, they only had 12 shots compared to 22 of his opponent.

Digging a little deeper into the stats, only West Ham, Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton have conceded fewer shots than United's 375 this season.

On top of that, United's average expected goals per game is just 1.49, putting them 11th in the table, well below their actual position of sixth.

Erik ten Hag You probably wouldn't agree with Scholes' claim and say he creates better quality chances than his opponents, but for now at least, he has Hojlund to thank for papering over any underlying cracks.
