'I hope Wolves get relegated': Salty talkSPORT presenter responds to Gary O'Neil's joke about the lowest moment of his career

Gary O'Neil has come a long way since working night shifts at talkSPORT.

The former Portsmouth and Middlesbrough regular currently stands out in his management with the Premier League team. Wolvesand as it stands, the highest-rated English coaching talent.

O'Neil retired from the game in 2019 and took a step forward Bournemouth as manager in 2022, saving them from relegation before dramatically improving Wolves' fortunes.

Between the end of his playing career and the start of his managerial career, O'Neil had a brief stint as a pundit and worked at talkSPORT.

Working alongside the former Chelsea defender Jason CundyO'Neil co-hosted Sports Bar from 10pm to 1am in 2020, and was asked about his time with Cundy during an appearance on the Sports Breakfast show.

“Yeah, it was possibly a low point,” O'Neil said to much laughter.

“Some of those nights, 12 midnight, ghost train, so yeah, it was probably harder, I'd rather go four or five without winning than do it again.”

Cundy took the comments and couldn't resist a casual punch in response.

“You know what? I hope they get relegated, Wolves,” he joked.

“Gary is a great guy, but I can't believe he's criticizing The Sports Bar!”

Current co-host Jamie O'Hara couldn't stop laughing and said: “But look where it's gone. Watch his rise to fame: from The Sports Bar to Wolves manager, flying through the Premier League and being talked about as England's next manager.

“And you're still here! Everyone has moved on and you haven't gotten anywhere!

Cundy responded: “Still here and with you! I'm down, friend, not up.

“I'm going to send him a message, I'm not happy about that, Gaz.”

Wolves' form under O'Neil is such that his players are being watched by teams chasing the Champions League.

Pedro Neto is one of them, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested, but the The coach said that the club is in no hurry to sell.
