Unai Emery gives explanations after appearing to rebuke Lucas Digne on the Aston Villa bench

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has given his version of events after he was seen reprimanding Lucas Digne on the bench.

The Villans recorded a 4-2 victory over Nottingham Forest as they keep their pursuit of Champions League football alive.

Half an hour later at Villa Park, the locals won 2-0 with Olivia Watkins and Douglas Luis punctuation.

However, a few minutes later, Emery headed to his substitute bench and appeared to have a few words with French left-back Digne.

Emery turned and pointed his finger at first, and former Barcelona player Digne's smile instantly turned to surprise.

As his Spanish boss continued his rant, the submissive looked even more bewildered before laughing and shrugging at what was being said in his direction.

When asked about the incident after the match, Emery said: “It's something I'm discussing with the players on the bench, some tactical ideas that their teammates are taking and trying to advise them on. “You're looking at it and when you're there you have to do this'. That's all.”

Villa was able to get a third goal moments later and Luiz got the second of the game.

Nottingham Forest made it 3-2 thanks to Moussa Niakhate and Morgan Gibbs-White.

But Digne entered the field of play in the 59th minute and almost instantly the score was 4-2 thanks to Leon Bailey.

And the Frenchman was able to avoid another chat as they held out until the final whistle.
