In his arrival press conference (via @iMiaSanMia) following his appointment as a new member of Bayern Munich’s board, Max Eberl has outlined the criteria for Bayern’s new manager.

When asked about what they are looking for in the new head coach, Eberl said: “We want a coach who fits with the club and its ambitions – who also fits with the ideas that Christoph and I have about the squad. Players like Tel and Musiala, are young players who need to play. Other big clubs like Real Madrid managed to integrate Camavinga and Tchouameni into a midfield with Kroos, Modric and Casemiro. That’s the sort of coach we need. We need a coach who wants to work with these kinds of players. Language? He has to speak a language that we all speak, German or English. It’s a criterion but not an excluding one. There are candidates”

In recent weeks, Bayern have been linked with a host of managers including Xabi Alonso, Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann and Sebastian Hoeneß to replace the departing Thomas Tuchel in the summer. It will be one of Eberl’s many tasks once he begins his role on March 1st.

Another will be a potential overhaul of the Bayern squad. It has been reported that there are several key players who could leave the club in the summer. Players such as Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, Matthijs de Ligt and even Leroy Sané have all been linked with moves away from Bavaria at some point in recent months.

The former Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig director also spoke on the potential overhaul of the Bayern squad: “I don’t know when we can start talking about an overhaul, does it start with 4 players, 6 players, 8 players? I’m starting now, Christoph already has a half-year advantage, he’ll give me a lot of information. We’ll look at the squad together. But the first thing is that we find the right coach. The cards are now reshuffled with me and Christoph. We’ll see what happens in the next three months. We’ll look at which players give FC Bayern their heart and soul to achieve our short-term goals”
