Marcus Rashford admits 'mistakes' amid overnight controversy but sends message to doubters over Man United commitment

Marcus Rashford admitted making mistakes but criticized his commitment to Manchester United.

Rashford has put his hands up for making mistakes in the past amid a recent controversy that saw the striker launch into Belfast for a night out before leaving a training session the next day.

But the England international has denied ever losing his commitment to the club he has belonged to since he was seven years old.

“I've tried my best not to change, even when I'm out at night or on vacation. But there's another side to that. I'm a human being.

“I have made mistakes that many 20-year-olds make and I have tried to learn from them. But I have also made sacrifices that no one sees.

“What I want you to understand is that money is not what keeps you playing through tough times. It's the love of the game, plain and simple.”

Rashford continued, adding: “I can take any criticism. I can take any headline. From podcasts, social media and newspapers. I can take it.”

“But if you start to question my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family to it, then I would just ask you to have a little more humanity.”

Rashford has been criticized in recent weeks for his performances at United and has struggled in front of goal this year, scoring just five in the Premier League this season.

By comparison, the 26-year-old scored 30 in all competitions last year and it looked like Ten Hag had unlocked his potential.

It has drawn criticism from sections of the media, including talkSPORT pundit and prominent United fan Mark Goldbridge.

He insisted that Rashford must improve or expensive for sale this summer in a fierce year amid the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

But he has regressed this season, which could affect his chances in the summer as England battle for the Euros in Germany.

Rashford added: “Every time I've been down, physically or mentally, I always feel like that's when I turn around and play my best football for United and England.”
