Manchester City go ahead Erling Haaland has been linked on and off with Real Madrid since he started scoring goals in Borussia Dortmund. When there was less certainty about the signing of Kylian Mbappe, his name appeared in the media based in Madrid a lot, but this time the concern in England came directly from the horse's mouth.
Pep Guardiola previously dismissed speculation about Haaland, expressing mock surprise that the newspapers in Spain knew more than he did. It has also been insisted that Haaland has a clause in his contract that would facilitate a move to the Spanish capital, allowing him to leave for closer to 100 million euros than 200 million euros.
Haaland said the following about his future, as published by The mirror.
“I'm really happy, especially with the people I'm surrounded by. The manager, the directors, the board, they're an amazing group of people and I'm really happy, I have to say.
“If I say this now, it will probably be a big headline, but tomorrow you never know what the future will bring. But I'm happy. You can write this, but you also have to write everything I said before. I'm happy.”
The feeling in Madrid is that sooner or later, Haaland will want to try in Spain, and Real Madrid is the only club that can afford him as things are. The prospect of potentially joining Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the line-up is certainly worrying for their rivals, but any move will be at least two summers away, with Mbappe only set to arrive this summer.
