Video footage has emerged of Aston Villa fans allegedly being attacked by Ajax hooligans at a train station ahead of their Europa Conference League clash on Thursday night.

The seven-second clip starts with one man gingerly getting to his feet after appearing to be knocked to the ground at the platform, while several men throw punches at another supporter.

The defenceless fan takes multiple heavy blows to the head and falls to the ground, with some of the hooded hooligans continuing to aim punches and kicks at him.

One of them then turns around and launches another punch at the man who was only just clambering to his feet, before the footage ends.

This is not the first time that hooded ultras have attacked opposition fans in a European match in the Netherlands.

AZ Alkmaar supporters tried to storm the area where the West Ham players’ family and friends were seated after their Europa Conference League semi-final clash last May.

Some players stepped in to defend their loved ones as things turned ugly after the final whistle, just moments after the Hammers had booked their place in the final.

Lifelong Irons fan ‘Knollsy’ also went viral for his valiant attempts to fend off the Dutch ultras.

Alkmaar issued an apology and were subsequently fined £68,000 and ordered to play one UEFA competition match behind closed doors, although the latter punishment was suspended for two years.

Thursday’s match proved to be a rather drab affair, with neither team able to find the net in a goalless draw at the Amsterdam Arena.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men in the latter stages, with Ezri Konsa and Tristan Gooijer given their marching orders inside the final 10 minutes.

It leaves the tie in the balance heading into next Thursday’s second leg at Villa Park, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
