Speaking to Bild, RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder has discussed the future of Xavi Simons and Dani Olmo.

One of the main talking points on Simons is if he is able to stay at Leipzig another season once his loan from PSG expires in the summer. When asked about the possibility, Schröder said: “Of course, you want it in the club for another year, but these are many, many subjunctives that we have to strive for. And despite everything, you are either a pessimistic person or a positive person. I am actually a positive person. We’ll see.”

The future of Dani Olmo is also up in the air in the summer as he reportedly has a release clause valued around €60m which is valid in the summer. On the future of the Spaniard, Schröder said: “He also knows what he has in us. And if he continues to play so consistently, then offers will come in. That’s how it is, then there is also a balancing process with all parties involved. But as I said, we are happy at first that it is simply stable.” After the departures of Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai last summer, Olmo was expected to take a bigger role in Leipzig’s attack but injuries have hampered his season after a strong start.

Schröder was also asked if an Olmo sale could mean Simons return to Leipzig permanently, the former Schalke director said: “We would have to set up several bell bags. No, that’s not realistic. Xavi goes back first. We would like to start discussions after the season as to whether there is a possibility.”

Since joining on loan from PSG in the summer, Simons has been one of the stand-out players in the Bundesliga this season. In 24 games this season, the 20-year-old has six goals and eight assists and along with Loïs Openda has helped Leipzig continue to fight for Champions League football in an off-season for the club.
