- West Ham United Vs. Aston Villa – Sun, Mar 17th 2024, 14:00
Pau Torres believes Aston Villa secured an important point at West Ham United after an improved second-half display.
Nicolò Zaniolo’s third goal of the season in the 79th minute clinched a well-earned share of the spoils for Unai Emery’s side.
The Italian’s finish cancelled out Michail Antonio’s first-half header as the Premier League encounter finished 1-1 at London Stadium.
“At the beginning of the game, always, we wanted to win,” Torres told VillaTV post-match.
“But you have to see how the match is going.
“They were in front of us in the first half, we tried everything in the second half.
“I think the team were better in the second half.
“At the end we’re still in fourth position, now only nine games I think to finish, and this point is important for us.”
Villa now head into the international period following the draw in east London, with Wolves next up when domestic matters return.
And the centre-back was positive when reflecting on Villa’s position heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
“We’re fourth in the league, we’re working from the beginning of the season to be in this position at this moment,” he added.
“So, we’re happy.
“We’re in the quarter-finals of the Conference League, which is important for us.
“The most important is to play, we’re working in a good way and the best is coming.”
