According to an Italian media Calciomercato, Liverpool could make an early move to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners this summer.

The Merseyside giants invested heavily in their midfield last summer. They signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. This has not prevented speculation about signing another midfielder and Calciomercato They claim that they have already asked about the Koopmeiners.

The same source adds that Liverpool could start negotiations with Atalanta when they meet at the European League quarterfinals next month. The Serie A side are said to be considering around £60million to part ways with the 26-year-old midfielder.

Quality game creator

The Dutchman has been in fantastic form for Atalanta this campaign. He has accumulated 12 goals and 4 assists in 34 outings. Koopmeiners has largely operated from the attacking midfield position this season, but he can also play from the number 6 and 8 positions when his team requires it.

Apart from this, the versatile star is blessed with an excellent work rate and can put pressure on opponents with his relentless high press. He would fit perfectly into Liverpool's current set-up and we wouldn't be surprised if the club tried to secure an early deal to sign him from the Bergamo-based side.

£60 million seems a fair value for a player of his experience. His creativity from the center of the park is something that would benefit Liverpool. They already have Mac Allister and Szoboszlai for the same thing, but Koopmeiners would provide extra quality with his ability to make key passes in every game.

Koopmeiners has already opened the door to enter the first division this summer. While he is aware of Juventus' interest, he recently acknowledged that he would be prepared endure the English weather to join some clubs. Liverpool could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for their services, but they should be optimistic about beating them as they are a more established team competing for trophies.
