On Saturday evening, Borussia Dortmund will travel to the Allianz Arena to take on Bayern Munich in what promises to be yet another feisty Der Klassiker encounter. While the Meisterschale may not be on the line, for both sides, places in Germany’s EURO 2024 squad certainly are.
Two of the names in the Dortmund squad looking to impress Julian Nagelsmann are Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck. It is expected that the pair will line up at the back for Edin Terzić’s side, as Mats Hummels makes way with a suspension looming as he sits on four yellow cards.
However, for Dortmund, one player missing through suspension is Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who remains unavailable after picking up a straight red card against Werder Bremen on matchday 25. It is expected that Salih Özcan will come into the side to partner club captain Emre Can, offering more resilience to the BvB midfield.
As well as Sabitzer, Die Schwarzgelben continue to be without regular shot-stopper Gregor Kobel. This will offer Alexander Meyer the chance to make his second Der Klassiker appearance, while Ramy Bensebaini’s season appears to be over after being forced off with an injury on international duty.
Nevertheless, Julian Ryerson will return to the Dortmund backline as he has recovered from illness, having featured for Norway on Tuesday. On top of this, Felix Nmecha and Sébastien Haller will both be available for Terzić, but they are expected to only make the bench on Saturday evening.
