AC Milan have completed the signing of striker Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.

Morata has signed a four-year deal with Milan that contains an option for a further 12 months. He will wear the No 7 at his new club.

The 31-year-old captained Spain to their success at the European Championship, having also led the line for their Nations League success in 2023.

Milan triggered the striker’s release clause in his contract at Atletico, for whom Morata scored 58 goals across two different spells.

The Spaniard spent a season and a half on loan at Atletico having joined initially from Chelsea in January 2019, before signing on a permanent deal in 2022. Morata scored 21 goals across all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side last season but found the net just twice after January.

He has previously spent four seasons in Italian football across two spells at Juventus, having also had two separate stints at Real Madrid and 18 months at Chelsea.

Morata has scored 35 goals in 130 Serie A games, winning the Italian top flight twice, the Coppa Italia three times and the Italian Super Cup once.

He has also scored 36 goals in 80 caps for his country.
