Alan Shearer has already chosen his replacement for Gary Lineker in Match of the Day

Gary Lineker's Match of the Day departure is approaching and his replacement will be music to Alan Shearer's ears, or should we say replacements.

The election of Alan Shearer to succeed Lineker Match of the dayMark Chapman, he'll get the job but he won't fly alone.

The Match of Day 2 host will share presenting duties with Sky Sports. Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan.

Lineker announced his departure from MOTD in November after joining in 1999.

He will remain part of the BBC's football coverage for a further 18 months before cutting all ties with the broadcaster.

It has been reported that Chapman will be one-third of the trio taking on hosting duties.

The three presenters will take turns for the 2025/26 season.

This news follows Shearer's endorsement of Chapman for the job.

“Chappers does Match of the Day 2, so I guess if you look at it logically, then he would have to have a real live opportunity to come to Saturday or do both shows,” Shearer told the Mirror earlier this week.

“I don't know, I haven't talked to anyone about this. Whoever it is, they have big shoes to fill, obviously, but yeah, the show goes on.

“Someone will come and present it, and if it's Chappers, they'll do a great job, I'm sure.”

Shearer wasn't the only one to praise Chapman as a former Liverpool player. danny murphynow an analyst for the station, also expressed his support for the 51-year-old man.

“I feel like they have (a candidate),” Murphy said Kick Off on talkSPORT.

“Mark Chapman, who I work with a lot on Sundays. I think he's a brilliant presenter and very, very knowledgeable about sport and football. Someone who is up to it.

“Whether he wants it or not, I don't know. That's a different question, you'd have to ask him.

“But he would be the most obvious and obvious choice for me.”
