Sevilla has been a feast for managers in recent seasons. Quique Sanchez Flores took over in December, following the dismissal of Diego Alonso, who had only been in charge for two months, after succeeding Jose Luis Mendilibar in October.
In total, Los Nervionenses have had five permanent managers since the start of the 2022-23 season, which is very remarkable. These failed coaching appointments have also been very costly, especially when the aspect of financial compensation paid is considered.
According to AS Diary, 20 million euros have been invested in the hiring and firing of coaches in the last two seasons. Alonso was the latest to be paid by Sevilla, and is reported to have earned €4m as part of the compensation package he earned for being sacked just two months into his contract in Andalusia.
Considering Seville are one of the many clubs in Spain that suffer from financial problems, these numbers are incredibly worrying for the leaders. They need to hope that Quique can turn things around as well, otherwise he could be the next manager to be fired, which will add to the compensation paid.
