Alan Shearer has praised Alexander Isak's header against Arsenal as a “beautiful thing”.
The former Newcastle striker also revealed that he was watching his beloved Magpies beat Arsenal in the company of Ian Wright.
Isak's brilliant first-half header was the only goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Arsenal in St. James Park.
He connected with a center from Anthony Gordon to beat David Rayá to seal what could be a crucial victory for his team.
Discussing the goal, Shearer said Podcast The rest is football: “The cross and the header. It was something beautiful, wasn't it?”
Regarding Arsenal legend Wright's reaction, Shearer added: “He was shouting and cursing, everything. He was going crazy.
“However, he said he thought the better team won and Newcastle deserved to win.
“I was very disappointed with Arsenal, how flat they were. How they were dragged down and Newcastle didn't really allow them to play their game.”
The victory means Newcastle are now just three points behind fifth-placed Arsenal in 10th place.
Otherwise, the Gunners are seven points behind the Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Isak, for his part, has scored three consecutive games after also scoring in the League and Carabao Cup against Chelsea last week.
After the match, he told talkSPORT's Jim White exclusively: “We want to go far in the tournament, in the Cups and in the Premier League. So yeah, it really was a perfect week.”
The Sweden international continued: “It was a long game. When you start early and have to defend the lead, the game can feel like it lasts four hours.”
“So it was that kind of game. I think we defended brilliantly as a unit and we really showed character today.”
Asked if Newcastle can now look to build momentum, Isak said: “Hopefully, yes. It's about what we do with it.”
“We've won two games in a row, so we have to use this confidence and momentum to continue getting wins.”
The 25-year-old hopes to maintain his scoring streak to Nottingham Forest this Sunday.
