Alphonso Davies’ Bayern Munich future has been a key talking point for the best part of a year.
With the Canadian’s contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, Der Rekordmeister have been attempting to convince the left-back to sign an extended deal at the club.
This is because Real Madrid have made it abundantly clear that they are hoping to lure Davies to the Spanish capital as a free agent in the summer.
Despite reports that Los Blancos would be willing to make an offer for Davies during the previous transfer window, they ultimately elected to wait until the Canadian’s contract expires, taking the chance that he refuses to renew with the record champions.
The 23-year-old has informed Bayern of his wage demands, which are believed to be in the region of €16 million a year plus bonuses.
While the Bavarian outfit have decided against offering such lucrative wages, there is a belief that should Davies impress under Vincent Kompany, then they will meet the left-back’s demands to ensure they do not lose him for free.
However, there is still uncertainty surrounding whether Davies actually wants to renew his deal at Bayern or sign for Real, and in a recent interview with Bild, the Canadian confirmed that he has yet to make his decision regarding his future.
“My full focus is on this team. I’m playing here for Bayern Munich now, and that’s what I’m concentrating on. I want to win every game. That’s why I’m not thinking about it at the moment. Regardless of whether I stay or leave the club, I will always carry this club in my heart.”
“You’ll have to talk to my agent about that. My focus right now is on winning every game. I’m not thinking about the other topic at the moment.”
It is understood that Real are prepared to wait until January—when Bayern are hoping to make a final decision on contract renewals—to see whether Davies has agreed to stay at the club, and if his future is still up in the air, they will begin negotiations with his management.
