Amanda Staveley cries after Newcastle fans' 'heartfelt' gesture following her exit with Mehrdad Ghodoussi
Amanda Staveley has revealed she cried in front of a Newcastle fan's banner dedicated to her and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi.
The Magpies' former co-owners left the club this summer after three years at St James' Park.
The pair sold their shares in July during the off-season, but Newcastle fans still made sure to show their gratitude at their opening game of the new campaign.
Before your dramatic 1-0 home win Over in Southampton, fans held up a banner of the pair reading “thank you”.
And Staveley took to Instagram to repost a photo of the banner and express how much the gesture meant.
The caption on the image read: “I'm humbled and grateful for all the heartfelt messages of support today – I've read them all and wish I could respond to you all personally.
“Seeing pictures of the stadium today brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Wor Flags for all your amazing work today and over the past few years.
“I know better than most the incredible work you all do on every game.
“Our fans are the best and there is no better place than St James's.”
“I'll always be your Geordie girl… Wor Mandy.”
The couple became the public face of Saudi Arabia's 2021 takeover of the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Staveley and Reuben Brothers each took a 10 per cent stake and played a major role in brokering the purchase of the club from the unpopular former owner. Mike Ashley.

However, they left this summer after saying it was “time for the management team to have a chance to implement its business plan.”
Newcastle's post-Staveley era continues next Sunday when they face Bournemouth away at the Vitality Stadium.
