Bild reports that defender Antonio Rüdiger is a doubt for Germany’s EURO 2024 round of 16 game against Denmark in Dortmund on Saturday.
The type of injury Rüdiger is suffering from us currently unknown but the doctors at Germany’s training base camp are working to get him fit in time for the game.
The current plan is for the Real Madrid defender to resume training in the latter part of the week, closer to the game. It is also still expected that Nico Schlotterbeck will partner Rüdiger in defence as he replaces the suspended Jonathan Tah.
If Rüdiger is not fit in time for the game, then VfB Stuttgart’s Waldemar Anton or Eintracht Frankfurt’s Robin Koch will partner Schlotterbeck instead.
A potential loss of Rüdiger will have a bit impact on an already shaky Germany defence. The former Chelsea defender has been the leader of the backline for a while now and any defender that does replace him, there will likely be a noticeable drop off in quality.
