Mats Hummels believes April will be one of the toughest months with a busy schedule that will see Borussia Dortmund play five games across 16 days.
Hosting third-placed Stuttgart in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday, BVB then travel to Atletico Madrid before a game against Borussia Mönchengladbach before the reverse fixture in the Champions League Quarter-Final. After their game against Diego Simeone’s Atletico, they then host leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
“April will be one of the hardest months of my career,” said Hummels. “But we’re looking forward to it and can make sure that it’s a great month ourselves.” Coming into April on the back of a 2-0 Klassiker win against Bayern Munich, Hummels believes his side have laid a “good foundation.”
Hummels was comfortably one of the best performers for Borussia Dortmund against Bayern Munich last weekend. “We had the feeling from the start that there was finally something to be gained,” added the 35-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund celebrate their 50th birthday of the Westfalenstadion, which has been commemorated with a special jersey. Hummels, who spoke at the event on Tuesday night, is set to play his 500th competitive game for Die Schwarzgelben.
