This is because his contract at Anfield expires in the summer and no new deal has been agreed.

Following the 2-0 win over Manchester City, Salah spoke to Sky Sports after the match and suggested it could be his last home clash with Pep Guardiola's side.

“Honestly, that's what I had in my head (possibly their last home game against Manchester City),” Salah said.

“This is probably the last City game I'll play for Liverpool so far, so I was going to enjoy it.

“The atmosphere was incredible, so I will enjoy every second here.

“Hopefully we win the league and we'll see what happens.”

Ahead of Liverpool's clash with Newcastle, Slot was asked about Salah's comments and had a cheeky response.

“Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 acquisitions being made (FFP charges), so hope they aren't in the Premier League next season!” Slot said.

“I'll wait for you in the Premier League, no, the boring answer is always the same. This is not the place to talk about Mo's contract and maybe I've already said too much about the joke I just made.

“That will probably make headlines, but it was a joke. I repeat, it was a joke.”

In February 2023, the city was accused of violating 115 rules of Financial Fair Play over a period of eight years.

The Premier League champions deny all charges against them and a conclusion is not expected until 2025.

Manchester City are also struggling on the pitch, with Guardiola's men currently on a seven-game winless streak.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Salah gave Liverpool a 2-0 victory over City, their sixth defeat in seven games.

As a result, the Reds sit top of the table and Manchester City are now 11 points off the pace in fifth place.
