Arsenal and Man City, European giants interested in summer transfer of Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly a summer target for Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Brazilian midfielder is playing his third season in the magpies since receiving £40m from Lyon in January 2022.

Guimaraes He played a key role in their qualification for the Champions League last season and has made 31 starts in the Premier League this campaign.

However, Newcastle look set to wage a battle to retain the 26-year-old this summer amid interest from other top European teams.

The Daily Telegraph reports that both Arsenal and City are considering moves for Guimaraes, who is said to be aware of their admiration.

It would see them fight for another top midfielder from a club outside the 'top six' following their pursuit of West Ham's Declan Rice.

Arsenal emerged victorious when they signed him in a £105 million deal, but they and City could face competition elsewhere for Guimaraes.

talkSPORT understands that Arsenal and City are two of several clubs interested in the Brazil international, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, there is no progress regarding any club pursuing Guimaraes.

His contract at Newcastle, which currently runs until 2028, is said to have a £100m release clause.

That fee is the base sum Arsenal paid for Rice last summer and would be the most expensive sale in the Magpies' history, crushing Andy Carroll's £35million move to Liverpool in 2011.

Guimaraes is not the only Newcastle player to have become a target for the Gunners, as Alexander Isak has also been linked.

A clause in his current contract means he could lose up to 20 per cent of his salary if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League and 16 points off the top four, but even with two games in hand it could be too late for them.

So it could be a big summer of change for Newcastle as they face a battle to retain key stars for next season.
