However, the report says Newcastle United They are also in the race and are willing to provide stiff competition to the North London clubs to secure any potential deal for the Canadian.

After selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer, the Lilywhites have finally signed a replacement after spending £65million on Dominic Solanke last month.

However, Richarlison has struggled to find a regular first-team place under Ange Postecoglou and has been tentatively linked with a possible exit from the club. As such, it appears that Spurs are planning to sign David to support Solanke if the Brazilian leaves the club next year.

Elsewhere, Arsenal were looking to sign a new striker this summer but failed to land their top target Benjamin Sesko. The Gunners are expected to sign a new striker next year and it seems David is in their sights.

David has shown his goalscoring ability in Ligue 1 of late, so could be a smart, low-cost acquisition for Arsenal or Tottenham if either club buys him for free next year.

The Canadian international is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt, so would be a bargain for Arsenal or Tottenham if one of the north London giants could lure him to England in 2025.
