According TBR Football, Arsenal have started contract negotiations with defender Gabriel Magalhaes in the middle transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners have made tremendous progress in the last two years under the manager. Mikel Arteta and his defensive record has played a key role. Guillermo Saliba and Magalhaes have been brilliant as a central defensive pair and the latter stood out against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday with the winning goal.
Magalhaes took his Premier League The Gunners' total goals stand at 15. Since his arrival at Arsenal in 2020, no other defender in the division has scored more than 11 goals. TBR Football Arsenal are now reported to have opened contract talks with the 26-year-old as they plan to extend his stay beyond June 2027.
It's no nonsense
Saliba and Magalhaes have transformed Arsenal into one of the weakest defences in European football. Saliba has generally received praise for his performances, but Magalhaes has been his equal on most occasions. In the recent north London derby, the former Lille man produced a fantastic all-round display.
He scored the winning goal with a stunning header in the 64th minute, but was also excellent defensively with 8 free spaces – the most of all the players on the pitch. Magalhaes finished with a rating of 8/10 according to Sofascore and fans will be hoping he can continue his bright start to the campaign.
Meanwhile, it is a no-brainer to extend his contract amid PSG's interest. Magalhaes is currently in £100,000 per week at Arsenal and is the 13th highest earning player. William Saliba and Ben White have already seen their wages increased to £190,000 and £150,000 a week respectively on new deals.
Ideally, Arsenal would like to increase Magalhaes' wages to £150,000 a week so that he is not affected by any speculation. The Brazilian is in the prime of his career at 26 and has plenty to offer the Gunners for at least the next four or five years.
