Arsenal fans convinced Leandro Trossard sent a message to Mikel Arteta with silent celebration against Aston Villa
Leandro Trossard instantly showed Mikel Arteta why he should start after scoring just two minutes after coming on in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
The Belgian striker has found himself on the bench in each of Arsenal's first two Premier League games, with Arteta preferring Gabriel Martinelli.
But the Brazilian has failed to impress and many fans feel that… Trossardwho scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, should be in the lineup.
And the former Brighton star immediately showed why that should be the case after scoring into the bottom left corner in the 67th minute.
But instead of running into the visitors' box in joy, the 29-year-old celebrated quietly and let his teammates swarm him.
Gunners Fans believe this was a clear message to Arteta that he is the one who should be favoured over Martinelli.
An X user posted: “Trossard indirectly tells Arteta he doesn't belong on the bench with that celebration.”
Another said: “Trossard!!!! His celebration is simply telling Arteta: what else do I have to do to start?!?”
A third added: “Trossard is celebrating in silence again. You know he's fighting with Arteta.”
This fan wrote: “I love that celebration, Trossard. Arteta needs to know he's making a mistake.”
Another simply stated: “That Trossard celebration was a message to Arteta.”
Meanwhile, one commented: “Trossard indirectly tells Arteta he doesn't belong on the bench with that celebration.”
Speaking to Sky Sports about his celebration, Trossard said: “Everyone wants to start and play games, it's nice to help the team and score goals.
“There are so many emotions. When you score a goal, it's like you don't know what's happening.”
Arteta, meanwhile, said: “He (Trossard) has got some great players in his position, they're going to have to accept that. Then they have to go out and accept it.”
Ten minutes after Trossard's goal, Thomas Partey doubled the visitors' lead with a shot from outside the area.
Bukayo Saka passed the ball to the Ghanaian, who fired a first-time shot towards the near post.
His shot proved too strong for Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as he deflected the effort into the bottom left corner.
It is Partey's first goal for Arsenal since scoring in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth in March 2023.
For Arsenal, it has gained revenge on Villa after losing twice to Unai Emery's men last season, ultimately missing out on the Premier League title by two points.
Arsenal have now won their first two top-flight games and are level with Manchester City and Brighton on six points.
