Arsenal They have reportedly been “monitoring” the development of Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres before making a possible attack this summer, according to the report. transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It has been widely suggested that the Gunners are interested in strengthening their front line by signing a new prolific goalscorer in the next window. Numerous strikers have been mentioned as serious targets for the north London club, including Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, but Gyokeres is also reportedly on their radar.

After moving to the José Alvalade Stadium from Coventry City last summer, the Sweden international has burst onto the scene of late after putting in impressive performances for the Lions this season, scoring 31 goals and registering 13 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

So, it seems that after being impressed by the 25-year-old's recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have shown their interest in signing him.

Now, writing in Daily information, Roman has reported that Gyokeres is on Arteta's short list and the Gunners have been “monitoring” his development of late ahead of a possible move this summer.

Gyokeres to Arsenal

The journalist further claims that Gyokeres has an £86m release clause included in his current contract and that Sporting are not expected to offer any club a discount for their star striker. The north London club will therefore have to spend big money to attract the striker to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Romano wrote:

“Viktor Gyokeres is a player that Arsenal should follow, he is certainly a player that is on their list. “Arsenal have not yet decided who will be their main target for the summer, they will first hold internal conversations to make that decision, but I am told that their scouts have been present several times to follow Gyokeres.”

Gyokeres has enjoyed a stellar campaign this season and has shown signs that he could develop into a top striker in the future. Therefore, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they buy him.

However, the striker does not have much experience playing at the highest level, so it will be a big gamble for Arsenal to sign him paying a whopping £86 million.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the Emirates club ultimately opts to take a concrete approach to acquiring his service in the upcoming transfer window.
