Arsenal they are supposedly interested in signing Newcastle UnitedEdit star Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.
It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta are keen to acquire a new midfielder as a possible replacement for Thomas Partey, who has struggled with fitness of late.
Numerous names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the summer window, including Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana and Martin Zubimendi, but Guimaraes is now emerging as a serious option.
speaking in The Athletic podcast, Ornstein have reported that Arsenal “really like” Guimaraes as he can play in the playmaker position as well as in a box-to-box role, so they could make a concrete approach to acquiring his service in the next window.
The journalist further claims that Newcastle are interested in retaining their star player, but the midfielder has a release clause included in his current contract so that Arsenal can sign him if he activates it.
Guimaraes to Arsenal
Ornstein He also affirms that Guimaraes has already demonstrated his qualities in the first division in recent times, so he would be a risk-free signing for Arsenal and he should be able to deliver “immediately” if they get him.
Ornstein said:
“Then you get into that sort of midfield group: someone I think Arsenal and other clubs really like is Bruno Guimaraes. He can play in the role of eight and in the role of six. Newcastle hope to keep him, but there is a release clause. Anyone who is going to accept it must hand it over immediately. “Arsenal may be looking.”
It has been reported that the Brazilian has a £100m buyout clause on his current contract, so Arsenal will have to spend a large chunk of their summer budget to sign him.
The 26-year-old is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Mikel Arteta's system, so it would be a huge coup for the north London club if they ultimately opt to buy him this summer.
