Now, in Give me sportJacobs has reported that Arsenal are planning to sign a new left winger next year and could opt to make Sterling's loan permanent, but he needs to prove he can perform at the highest level.
Mikel Arteta are looking for a starting winger, who can score and create chances for attackers and that could rekindle their interest in signing Williams.
However, the journalist assures that for Arsenal to be able to get this agreement it has to be achievable from a financial point of view and it was not this summer so they did not make a concrete proposal.
Williams leaves for Arsenal
Jacobs said:
“Arsenal are looking for two things on the flanks. Firstly, a left winger or striker who can start regularly and provide goals and assists. (Raheem) Sterling could be an option, but of course Nico Williams is another who has been on their radar for quite some time.
“The terms of that deal need to be more affordable if Arsenal want to pull the trigger, but they want a starter at left-back. Sterling needs to prove he can compete with and/or supplant (Gabriel) Martinelli, or Arsenal could in a year’s time reinforce that position with a younger name.”
Williams has a £50 million release clause in his current contract and reportedly wants a substantial wage package to move to the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, he would definitely be an expensive acquisition for Arsenal if they buy him. However, Barcelona It is said that they are also interested in signing him and the player prioritizes signing for the Blaugrana.
Williams is a hugely talented player and has already established himself as one of the best attackers in La Liga. He has also proven his qualities on the international stage, helping Spain win the European Championship.
