Arsenal are “pushing” to sign Spanish attacker Nico Williams from Athletic Club Bilbao before the summer window, according to a journalist Pipi Estrada.
The 21-year-old has established himself as a key player for Bilbao and has been in excellent form this season. Williams has scored five goals in all competitions and has also collected 10 assists along the way.
The Spaniard operates mainly in wide areas, but is versatile enough to start as a centre-forward if necessary. His ability to slot in anywhere in the top three could make him a real asset for Arsenal.
Journalist Pipi Estrada has revealed to El Chiringuito that Arsenal is currently 'pressuring' to sign the versatile attacker at the end of the season as Mikel Arteta seeks to further strengthen its front line.
Williams has a release clause worth £43m in his contract so Arsenal would not need to negotiate with Bilbao to reach an agreement. However, they would still have to convince the player to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Williams could transform Arsenal
Williams is highly valued in Spanish football and has the attributes to become a top player with the right guidance. Arsenal desperately need versatile attackers like him. Arteta has not been able to rotate players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli due to the lack of depth in the squad. Williams' arrival would allow Arsenal to change teams more frequently.
Williams would add goals and creativity from the wings. His explosive pace and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations would also add unpredictability and edge in the final third.
The opportunity to play in the first division For a club as big as Arsenal it would be an attractive proposition for the Spaniard and he will want to test himself against the best defenders in the Premier League.
Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has been competing for the league title since last season. Williams would certainly like his chances of winning major trophies with them if he moved to north London.
Whether Arsenal can add the necessary depth to their squad over the summer transfer window, there is no reason why they can't compete on all fronts next season.
