- Aston Villa Women Vs. West Ham United Women – Sun, Dec 15th 2024, 14:00
A brace from Adriana Leon and late solo strike from Kenza Dali sealed the win and cancelled out a first-half goal from Vivienne Asseyi.
Jordan Nobbs also once again made history as she became the first-ever player to make 200 Women’s Super League appearances.
It was an electric start from Villa as Leon put the side ahead after only four minutes on the clock.
The Canada international won the ball back inside the final third, carried it towards the box and blasted a shot into the far bottom corner of goal.
Noelle Maritz whipped a cross deep into the area five minutes later but Rachel Daly’s first time shot flew over the target.
However Villa’s early dominance was soon extinguished as the Hammers drew themselves level as Asseyi turned home a cross from Katrina Gorry.
Nobbs lifted a shot from outside the box on the 32nd minute but it flew just wide of the target.
Leon restored the Villans’ lead two minutes before the break as Dali slipped a delightful pass through to the winger who took a touch inside the box before slotting a shot past the keeper.
Anna Patten came close to extending her side’s lead six minutes after the restart as a corner kick from Lucy Staniforth fell perfectly for the defender inside the box but her towering header was superbly pushed over the bar.
Manuela Pavì called Sabrina D’Angelo into action as she curled an effort goal wards on the hour mark but the shotstopper was equal to it.
D’Angelo stepped up again for her side on the 71st minute with the best save of the game as she got down low to stop a powerful shot from Gorry.
Dali sealed the win and rounded off a terrific performance on the 83rd minute.
Miri Taylor quickly slipped a free-kick into the France international’s path who charged through the final third, created some space on the edge of the box before smashing a shot into the back of the net.
Patten ensured it wasn’t a nervy end to the encounter as she coolly dispossessed Gorry inside the area to deny her a free shot on goal.
