Jurgen Klopp admitted his Liverpool team “opened the door” for Aston Villa when they let their lead slip in the final five minutes.

“It got away from us,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We played very good football. We were very good, we did a lot of good things and caused a lot of problems.

“Before we changed, we gave them too many opportunities. It was very intense for the boys. They created too much. They were too often in our area and we made the changes.

“Then we made a mistake. It happens, but at that moment the door opens.”

“They scored the tie and I don't even know how. The character of the boys tonight was outstanding in our situation. We wanted to win the game.

“The moment we lost 3-2, it was really complicated. That's it, that's the story of the game.”

Liverpool have conceded more than 2 goals in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time since April/May 2014.

Only between February and April 1999 did the Reds have a longer streak in the competition (five games in a row).
