Aston Villa reach deal to sign Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen as Euro 2024 star closes in on six-year deal
Ian Maatsen is on the verge of leaving Chelsea for Aston Villa and the clubs have reached an agreement for him, talkSPORT understands.
He Blues have been open to parting ways permanently with the 22-year-old after he spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

He finished his time in the German team with three goals and two assists in 23 games in all competitions.
His performances earned him a place in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024, with Ronald Koeman calling him up as a late replacement for Frenkie de Jong.
AND Maatsenwho won the Championship on loan at Burnley in the 2022/23 campaign, will now leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent transfer.
The deal is believed to be worth more than the £35million release clause Chelsea agreed with Dortmund in the winter window.
talkSPORT understands a fixed deal could be worth up to £40m, with Chelsea standing to earn more if add-ons are met.
Personal terms have already been agreed, and Maatsen will sign a six-year contract at Villa Park until 2030.
Maatsen, who joined Chelsea's academy in 2018 from PSV, has made 15 appearances for the west Londoners since making his debut in 2019.
He played 15 times under Mauricio Pochettino but was limited to just one Premier League start.
Maatsen offered an update on his future ahead of the Champions League final, which Real Madrid won 2-0 at Wembley.
He said: “I still have a contract and after the summer we will decide where my future will be.
“I know I came here to Dortmund to prove to myself that I can play at the highest level and on the highest stage and that's what I'm doing now.”
If Villa complete a deal to sign Maatsen, he will play in the Champions League again.
While Chelsea will compete in the Europa Conference League, Europe's third-tier competition.
