As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via Florian Plettenberg), Aston Villa are set to sign RB Leipzig target Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord.
It has been well documented that Geertruida has been a long-term target for Die Roten Bullen, with the Bundesliga outfit having submitted a bid for the Dutchman last summer.
However, it is understood that they are unlikely to sign Geertruida before the end of the transfer window, with more concrete interest in the defender from the Premier League.
It is believed that Aston Villa are advancing with a deal to sign the 24-year-old, whose contract is set to expire in 2025.
Nevertheless, Villa will face competition for his signature, and Leipzig have not totally turned their back on potentially luring Geertruida to the Bundesliga.
Regardless, it is expected that Marco Rose’s side will focus on finding a replacement for Dani Olmo, with PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko the Spaniard’s likely successor.
