Goalkeeper Emi Martínez was seen stunned by the scandalous goal, and the cameras captured him with his mouth open.

Duran He has proven to be a great substitute for Villa this season, having scored the winning goals against West Ham and Leicester last month, and now against Everton.

Among players who have scored eight or more Premier League goals, only Matt Derbyshire (90 per cent) has seen a higher proportion of goals as a substitute than Duran (88 per cent).

But the drama did not end there, as Everton should have equalised immediately after Duran's goal.

However, Calvert-Lewin failed to direct his shot on target and his effort crashed off the crossbar.

Villa eventually claimed victory, marking the first time since January 2020 that they have won a Premier League game after trailing at half-time.

For Everton, they are only the second Premier League club in history to lose consecutive games despite going two goals up in both games.

The result will only increase the pressure on Dyche, who has never won a game in charge of Everton from behind.
