According to Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta want to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Odilon Kossounou.
It has previously been reported that Die Werkself are open to selling Kossounou this summer.
With Xabi Alonso’s side hopeful of cashing in on a key asset before the end of the transfer window, Kossounou has been identified as a likely candidate.
Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and Wolves have all expressed an interest in securing the defender’s services, but neither Premier League side have made contact with Die Werkself thus far.
This has, therefore, allowed Atalanta to open negotiations with the German champions, as they look to prize the 23-year-old to Serie A.
It is understood the Italian outfit have already sent their first proposal to Leverkusen, which is believed to be a loan with an obligation to buy Kossounou at the end of the season, should certain criteria be met.
As well as this, it is believed that Atalanta are willing to offer Alonso’s side a €5 million loan fee.
As stated in the report, Kossounou is open to the move, but the final decision will come down to Leverkusen, who could still be at risk of losing Jonathan Tah this summer amid interest from Barcelona.
