Athletic Club did not attempt to have a key player available for the challenge of Girona

Last Sunday, Athletic Club failed to make it four wins in a row in La Liga after being held at home by Sevilla. The visitors had a man advantage for the final minutes of that match after Julen Agirrezabala saw red for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity, and they made it count with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Athletic were furious at the exclusion of Agirrezabala, which proved to be very costly. Earlier this week, they announced that the decision had been appealedand the result of this is now known.

It's bad news for Athletic and coach Ernesto Valverde, as the Competition Committee rejected his appeal, AS Diary. It means Agirrezabala will not be available for Sunday's trip to Girona.
