Athletic Club star Nico Williams gave Barcelona the green light during video call before changing his mind
Wing of the Athletic Club Nico Williams declared this week in an interview that he no longer thought about his future, and was completely focused on the Basque club this summer, after weeks of rumors about a move to Barcelona. Another report emerged claiming he was set to join the Blaugrana in early August.
Barcelona could not guarantee Williams that he is registered immediately, even if he has paid his release clause of 58 million euros, as was seen with the agreement for Dani Olmo. However Relief say that after a meeting between the Director Sporting Barcelona Deco and the agent of Williams Felix Tainta, the details of a contract were agreed.
Then at the beginning of August, with Barcelona on tour in the United States, a video call was made with the president of Barcelona Joan Laporta in Baltimore, Deco in Porto, Williams in Marbella and Tainta in Pamplona. The Catalan side did not hear anything more from the Williams camp after that, and the 22-year-old returned to training at Athletic, advancing his return by a week.
The rest is history, with Barcelona moving for Dani Olmo a few days after this call would have happened. Deco traveled to Leipzig to close the deal, amid reports that the Williams move was still on. Some say Laporta feels Williams has missed his chance to join the club, others believe the Blaugrana will return for him next summer if they have the finances in place.
