Malaga are apparently on the brink of a major coup as they look to keep hold of their star academy product 'Antonito'. Out of contract in the summer, the 18-year-old winger has impressed in Segunda since the promotion of the son of Los Boquerones last season.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been linked with a move for Antonio Cordero, and with less than a month to go before they can sign a pre-contract, it looked like Malaga's hopes of keeping him had faded. However, general manager Kike Perez told SER Deportivo (via AS Diary) who are optimistic about Cordero signing a new agreement.
“Things will flow. And we will get it. Nothing, nothing from Barcelona. What we want is for him to stay and we are going to fight until the last second. We have offered him a very important contract,” noted Perez following recent suggestions that Barcelona could make a bid for him in the winter transfer window.
“He's in Malaga, he's doing great things, we want him to stay, it's his home, his club. I'm optimistic because I know he has an impressive sporting career ahead of him and I know it won't be better than at this club, where he was trained and given confidence and affection. These years until he grows up, may he be with us.”
Cordero was the subject of a late summer bid from Barcelona, who wanted him to join Barca Atletic, but Malaga rejected the offer. Real Madrid is more interested in signing Cordero on a free, but the fact that he is represented by Pini Zahavi has always been noted as an advantage for the Blaugrana, due to his close relationship with Joan Laporta.
