As reported by Kicker, Barcelona are hopeful of signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
In recent weeks, it has been reported that Der Rekordmeister are willing to listen to offers for Kimmich in the summer. This season, the 29-year-old has failed to impress, as talented teenager Aleksandar Pavlović has shone from midfield despite his tender age.
This has led to Kimmich being pushed out to right-back by Thomas Tuchel in the absence of January signing Sacha Boey. However, while this change has seen Kimmich’s performances on the pitch drastically improve, the German international does not consider his future to be as part of a back four.
Therefore, Kimmich himself is also considering a move away from Bavaria, with Spain and England as his preferred destinations. It had appeared that Liverpool were the front-runner for his signature, with the Premier League title contenders showing concrete interest, but now Barcelona are looking to do whatever they can to sign the 29-year-old.
Kimmich’s deal at the Allianz Arena is set to expire in 2025, and fresh contract talks between the player and the club were scheduled to have already begun. Nevertheless, as of yet, Bayern have not approached Kimmich, making a move away at the end of the campaign a real possibility.
Regardless, while Barcelona are looking to lure Kimmich to Catalonia, there are doubts about whether they can afford to do so. Nonetheless, with Ronald Araújo still considered a key target for Der Rekordmeister this summer, the Spanish giants could offer the Uruguayan defender as part of a swap deal if they see Kimmich as a vital signing for next season.
