Barcelona seemed ready to cut ties with Ilkay Gundogan just over a year after the 33-year-old arrived, and a few months after finishing the season as their main assist provider. The German's high salary is thought to be the reason for the Catalan side telling the former Manchester City captain to look for a new club.
As it happens, City is one of the sides in contact with its agents. Matteo Moretto he informed Daily Briefing by Fabrizio Romano that Pep Guardiola's relationship with the German could be crucial when he decides what to do next. He also explained that it was a distinct possibility that Gundogan could leave on a free transfer, as the Blaugrana are simply trying to save his wages.
Marc Bernal: “We all dream of reaching the first team. When they told me that I was going to start… Well, the truth is that I did not expect it and it was a unique moment that I will remember all my life.” @FCBarcelona

Galatasaray is one of the sides that have shown interest in Gundogan, alongside City. Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr are one of his other suitors, but he is not believed to be interested in a switch to the Middle East at this point. Various reports put Gundogan's salary at 15-20 million euros gross per year, without which, Barcelona believe they can register Dani Olmo with.
