Lamine Yamal insists Barcelona “do not care” who they will play in the Supercopa de Espana final following their win over Athletic Club.

The 17-year-old scored Barca’s second of the night in a two-goal victory, setting up a final on Sunday where they will play the winners of Thursday night’s semi-final match between Real Madrid and Mallorca.

“We don’t care who we’re going to play against in the final,” Yamal said after the match. “We have to come back with the title.

“Athletic is a very physical team. We suffered at the end of the first half but we knew how to play the game.”

Gavi gave Barcelona the lead in the 17th minute before Yamal added a second seven minutes after the break, with Inaki Williams’s late goal back for Athletic Club ruled out by VAR following an offside call moments after Oscar de Marcos had also seen his effort disallowed by the on-field assistant.

Hansi Flick substituted Yamal off in the 63rd minute for Fermin Lopez, but the Barcelona head coach played down any possibility of an injury concern.

“I know you always keep an eye on Lamine, but we have a team and players that need to be taken care of,” Flick said. “He came from an injury and we needed to take him off after 60 or 65 minutes.”

The Catalan club have won the competition 14 times, more than any other club, but were defeated 4-1 by Madrid in last season’s final.
