The financial struggles in Barcelona are well documented, and have led to delays in a number of payments, while trying to organize their cash flow. Not to the former manager Quique Setien.
The manager of Cantabria was appointed in January 2019 with a two-year deal, but things did not go to plan after the pandemic. The veteran coach oversaw their 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and surrendered a league lead to Real Madrid. Just seven months after joining Barcelona, Setien was fired by Josep Maria Bartomeu to appoint Ronald Koeman.

However, Setien has not been paid for his contract. Without any sign of this on the way, Setien ended up taking Barcelona to court on the matter, and Marco they say Barcelona finally paid what they owed after four years of holding him back.
Recently, the Committee of Managers met in Madrid to discuss the problems affecting the profession, and Setien's struggles were at the top of the agenda. Managers are willing to bring a rule that ensures clubs cannot dismiss their coaches and appoint a new one until the dismissed party has been paid.
