On Wednesday morning, it was announced that Thomas Tuchel would depart Bayern Munich at the end of the season. Due to a number of poor performances since returning from the international break, Tuchel has also lost a significant amount of respect in the dressing room, with players such as Thomas Müller falling out with the head coach.
However, while his tenure will come to an end, there has already been an understanding as to who could take over at the Allianz Arena. As previously reported, Der Rekordmeister have Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso in their sights, despite interest from Premier League side Liverpool.
Nevertheless, there was little knowledge about the future of Tuchel. Regardless, according to Sky Germany, Tuchel is on the shortlist of candidates to succeed Xavi at Barcelona in the summer.
While there has yet to be contact made between the two, those who are responsible at Barcelona understand Tuchel’s affinity for the club. As well as this, the 50-year-old is not looking to take a break from management and would be very interested in the job in Catalonia.
It is said that Tuchel has been studying the Barca DNA for years, and his fascination with the club’s youth academy, ‘La Masia’ led him to meet club legend Johan Cruyff. However, if a move to Spain does not work out, then a return to England is always a possibility.
If the chance to manage Chelsea again ever arose, then Tuchel would happily return to Stamford Bridge, while the possible opportunity to manage Manchester United also appeals to him. Either way, it appears that Tuchel will not be short of options in the summer.
