Barcelona in the dark over injured player's recovery as concerns grow

Barcelona has been dealt several injury blows during the early stages of the season, with the likes of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Marc Bernal (both serious knee ligament tears) among those who have been hit. Of all those who have passed through the treatment room, the situation of Andreas Christensen is perhaps the most worrying.

Christensen came on as a substitute in Barcelona's opening day win at Valencia, but has not featured at all since then. The club have confirmed he will undergo conservative treatment on a long-standing Achilles problem, although no timetable has been set for his return, Sport.

Christensen was initially expected to return after the ongoing international break, but that will almost certainly not be the case. In addition, part of his salary was used to register Dani Olmo during the summer, so it could also influence when he can return to action.

Currently, Hansi Flick has Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Eric Garcia as central defender options. Christensen is missing, though he won't be making his own Barcelona return until he is 100% fit to do it – this is Hansi Flick's philosophy.
