For some time Bayern Munich appeared to be in pole position to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah when his contract expires in the summer, but Barcelona have moved ahead of Vincent Kompany’s side in the race to sign the German defender.
Both Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano have confirmed a report from Jijantes FC that Barcelona have made an initial proposal to Tah with talks in an advanced stage. The German champion and his representatives – namely Pini Zahavi – met Barça sporting director Deco on Thursday to discuss a summer transfer.
A departure in the summer would bring an end to Tah’s 10-year spell at Bayer Leverkusen, joining the club for just shy of €10m from Hamburg in July 2015. The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in central-defence and was integral in Leverkusen’s unbeaten domestic campaign last season which resulted in a Bundesliga and DFB Pokal title.
Tah has featured in every game for Bayer Leverkusen this season.
