Barcelona announced the long awaited new sponsorship deal with Nike during the weekend, confirming that the American brand of sportswear will remain its kit producer for the next 14 years until 2038. However, there was a charm when they seriously considered the manufacture of their shirts.

Some dismissed it as a negotiating tactic with Nike, but evidence of this fact is that the Blaugrana had the shirts designed and made, with both men's and women's players also modeling the kit. Helped by the Danish kit sponsor Hummel, the Blaugrana then looked for manufacturers in Morocco and Asia, and made more than 130,000 of them.

Radio Catalunya they say those kits are now distributed, and unable to sell them due to their agreement with Nike, they are considering giving them to club members. There would be enough to give one to every member, of which there are 133k.

On the one hand, football fans are constantly changing, and this would be a good sign to return from the president Joan Laporta and Barcelona. Another perspective is cost. At a time when the club is struggling financially, many will wonder how much was spent to “explore” this route, in what now looks like a sunk cost.
