According to FT, Barcelona were considering a move for RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan.
As stated in the report, the Spanish outfit are looking to add defensive reinforcements before the end of the transfer window, especially at centre-back.
As well as this, it is understood that Barca had identified Simakan as an ideal target and approached Die Roten Bulen about a possible transfer.
However, Leipzig informed the Blaugrana that they would only listen to offers within the region of €50 million.
For Barca, signing a player for such a lucrative price at this stage of the window is simply not possible, which is why they have since cooled their interest in the Frenchman, as he looks destined to remain in Saxony for the remainder of the campaign.
After the transfer of Dani Olmo from Leipzig—who they have only just been able to register—Barcelona do not have a significant amount of funds available to them and will, therefore, look elsewhere on their hunt for a central defender.
